I would comment that I chose America as an example of the whole Western paradigm, as it is a trend setter for the world, good or bad.

In a society which has so far been based on consumption and procurement, without dramatic intervention, the continuing severe contraction of the retail industry is a clear and present indicator of the process of the collapse of the paradigm of consumption in America.

Every civilisation in the past has failed, as will we, our choice is to make the transition from the old to the new as peaceful and uneventful as possible, I know, a hard task! However unless there is an epiphany, and both Washington and Wall Street have an awakening, and realise what is good for all Americans is good for them, then the below is the path down which we may all be led.

Poverty and Inequality is not only about money, it’s allowed to exist, it is a choice our Governments make, for inequality is also about access to education, to nutritional food which leads to the aspect that the poor are so limited by which is the opportunity to shine – inequality in an economy is a big issue, in an economy the size of the United States it is a major issue. If the playing fields was level, I don’t have any problem with the rich being rich, what I do not agree with is a policy of creating a class system whereby the poor and those who don’t have money are treated with disdain and contempt by their own government, effectively blamed for the momentary place they find themselves, policies are in place to take support from those in an country who most need it, because they are easy targets and have no paid lobbyists, nor it seems any empathy from their elected advocates – that the poor and uneducated continue to vote them in even to their own detriment is an outcome of the success of the mass control programs I touched on in my previous post, here

From Joseph E. Stiglitz, Nobel Laureate and Chief Economist and fellow of the Roosevelt Institute who offers a number of provocative insights in his 115 page report, but the key takeaway is – inequality isn’t inevitable, and it’s not just a social issue, but also an economic one, because it’s largely responsible for the fact that every economic “recovery” since the 1990s has been slower and longer than the one before. Inequality isn’t the trade-off for economic growth; rather, it’s both the cause and the symptom of slower growth – we can download the full report here

Retail

Already there is over a billion square feet of vacant retail space in the USA, and now the news that major U.S. retailers have announced the closing of more than 6,000 stores from coast to coast. The list includes only those retailers that have announced plans to close more than 10 outlets this year and next – This growing list of stores closings coincides with the ongoing decline in discretionary consumer spending – which is the consequence of the collapse of a viable living income, for those families, which are a countries financial backbone, the middle class in America. The shopping mall is a fatality of the failed consumer paradigm, the concept that buying things are a way of life, but is mainly about ego and more importantly self-gratification … something that needs to be constantly fed with new purchases.

The loss of retails outlets, will be the hardest felt in poorer and the lower middle class areas throughout America and of course overseas in countries, like Australia and perhaps Canada who tend to follow these flawed strategies.

Even at the time when productivity has increased, Corporate profits are at a all time high, disposable income for the majority of Americans has been reduced, there is just not the money available to consume anymore – credit cards are maxed out – many Americans are not earning to live, they are living to pay – this lack of money to consume in an economy based in consumption, will impact much more than retail sales, it will affect the total gambit of consumption, travel, restaurants, new vehicle purchases, service industries, manufacturing and housing, in fact any expenses which are seen as unnecessary, then later this year the holiday season, travel and Christmas selling will be a disappointment. Income for the majority, has extra pressure coming from historically low wages – the demands of rising taxes, housing and health-insurance costs and you’ve got a formula for financial contraction across the board. All during this, the rich are being excused their equitable contribution to society itself, forcing the Government to seek loans or to make up the balance via taxing the population to make up the difference, whilst the rich share an ever decreasing burden – that legislators don’t see the connect between income and expenses (especially when the US budget is serious deficit) is also a serious ideological deficit, but perhaps now too many legislators are no longer working for all Americans, and are perhaps working only for the rich?

The financial information is available …. below let’s look at brief statistics of the Income gains going to top 1% in various years

1954-7: 5% 1975-9: 25% 2009-12: 95% http://nyti.ms/1BhNrQq

The latest figures show that of all new money, 95% of it went to the very rich..

A further effect of the contraction is that households will tend to buy the cheapest of the known brands, further accelerating the investment in overseas manufacturing and reducing U.S. production capacity (and jobs) at home – however there will come a time, when no price will be low enough and even that strategy will fail … in the long term overseas manufacturers themselves will be vulnerable (affecting manufacturing countries such as China and many others), this will spread globally.. This is a trend that will likely affect the EU and other countries that follow the illusion of the American dream.

Needless to say Technology itself insulates us from nature … go for a walk and see people with their heads in the phones, even in public places, where they could open their eyes and see wonder in everything, from the trees, the cycle of life, the ants and insects, just the wonder of life and the living of it – everywhere!

The effect of the employment in those sectors affected directly by the overall contraction will be major, it will naturally have a flow on effect on all companies involved, sales organisation and distributors, service, spare parts, any suppliers of technology, raw materials, energy, logistics, investment, construction for the entire sector as the ripple of the domino effect reaches outwards.

I would pass on the general comment that unchecked consumption is a greater threat to the planet than the growth in population itself .. also that flawed retail marketing and production strategies in food production and distribution, mean that between 40-50% of all food grown, never reaches a person.

This came from what I have been able to understand from the Pope’s statement on climate change …

To blame population growth instead of extreme and selective consumerism on the part of some, is one way of refusing to face the issues.

Outlook

A correction will be necessary, this can either being managed, or it will just happen and the ashes will lay where they fall.

By it’s very nature I feel like Alice and the looking glass, change outside of the norm will not be possible, as observations of Politicians, reveal their many flaws, which are that they are driven primarily by self interest, fear and dogma – however let’s look at sometime in the future. Then when we look back, what will have become of the monumental edifices, the largely vacant and abandoned shopping malls, these symbols of the past ‘glories’ of consumerism, consumption and distraction – what are we to do with the vast buildings and their open spaces, perhaps housing? … a productive thing we could do, it rip up the vast car parks and do something useful with the land, like grow food!

Flowing on from this retail contraction, inevitably there will be corporate failures, first in retail, then in manufacturing and service industries, the more leveraged the company is, the more likely, but around this point this will be a financial Armageddon scenario, there will be no one to buy these assets, Banks will have made loans to formerly secure and even the blue chip – stocks will plunge, companies will fail, or go into Chapter 11, bankruptcy protection, (these assets will again be unwanted, useless, perhaps even toxic, as there will be no buyers), then the Banks (which were formerly too big to fail, and which are even now larger) will become vulnerable, cash will dry up, if this correction is wide spread, then the cycle that was started by greed, whose first chapter was the 2008, Global Meltdown will have its Finale, its curtain call for the banks will be asset rich, but cash poor, huge asset right downs, and this time, there will be no bail out, the Public cash cow won’t be there, the public won’t allow it (and the US can’t afford it) what we have is wide spread Corporate collapse – the US Budget itself will become even more vulnerable without Corporate and personal taxation income from the millions of the now unemployed, confidence will collapse, the currency will dramatically devalue, imports will cost more, what will need to happen will be severe and permanent expense cuts are applied – I cannot see the Hawks and the GOP accepting this (especially to defense), the US. will print money, borrow more but in time, inevitably societal collapse will follow.

The Corporate spin that Trade deals are good for America is a falsehood .. they are only good for Corporations – the NAFTA was supposed to increase jobs, but it has had the opposite effect, in effect over 600,000 jobs have been lost in the USA – Corporations just took the opportunity to move manufacturing to lower paid jurisdictions such as Mexico … the TPP .. the Trans Pacific Partnership would just exacerbate the job flow out of America to the regions that endorse the Treaty, but the real basis is the Corporate grab for more Power and control, the strategy is to entrench Corporate domination, what’s at state here is the individual sovereignty of nations. I would suggest you look to David Korten’s article that will develop this further, here. This confluence of flaws and scenarios, from the Political, Administrative, Taxation, Judicial and financial mis-management, means we enter the unknown realm, of what happens next?

There is a lesson for us all here, sadly one we won’t learn from.. as George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel said … “history teaches us is that people and governments have never learned anything from history, or acted on principles deduced from it – Hegel”

I guess a part of what I am saying is that unrestrained consumption for its own sake could not be sustained – but from an environmental point of view, the ending of this paradigm, means that the planet will get a reprieve.

References, Comments and Influences:-

Definition of Consumerism: a social and economic order and ideology encourages the acquisition of goods and services in ever-increasing amounts. Early criticisms of consumerism occur in 1899 in the works of Thorstein Veblen.

The status-quo is always in transition, slowly … what works today may be made redundant tomorrow with a truly disruptive paradigm ( a life changing concept, not just a technical concept ) that takes hold of our imaginations – whether we have that time to wait, I don’t know – the future of the planet is in the hands of the Politicians at the moment, a more pathetic display of ignorance and uninformed power I have yet to see … the real issue is they they do not know what is the right decision, they are influenced by lobbyists by donors, and occasionally maybe a constituent, they do not know the right path, so they stay with no decision, which though they may not realise it, is still a decision which gives us more of the same, more of that which is patently not working.

During my research, I can see many people with thoughts of the future, so of us will be right, other not, me included, it really doesn’t matter. There are many people who are trying their best, actually within each person, I believe everyone is trying their best, we cannot and should not judge others, it is hubris and ego to consider that other people aren’t doing what they can, or that we are doing more. At some point the concerns of the people will reach an inertia and change will happen – but what is without question is that we are always in transition, as nothing stays the same, the purpose of this post, indeed all of my posts is to raise awareness, to offer a perspective … not to do so would be irresponsible, my efforts and those of others may change nothing, or perhaps everything, we cannot know what the ripple we create, will touch and what may come of it.

Ascension (for some) – Not so much a fantasy?

May 1, 2015 Leave a comment

I have been so focused on my research into my current work on the western “capitalist economies” – and the most visible of these America: the series is called “On the edge of the Abyss” (starting here ) .. when the below came to me in a rush! Perhaps it is a fantasy, inconsequential, a fiction, if so pay it no mind, but from the work that I have done of the spiraling culture of devolution, it may fit in broad terms.

Unless we have the time to pause and reflect via some king of “real” unifying event, or person, perhaps someone of the standing of the Pope to offer world leadership, or a major climate event – more likely, those behind the scenes will manufacture another event, a terrorist act where America will give away their liberty for security as they have previously done through the Patriot Act, and organisations such as Homeland, militarized police (almost every where) and other federal agencies, the FBI, DEA, TSA etc – such an event, will generate such fear a clamouring to keep “me” safe, it will hand the future to the very rich .. then as now, furthering the devolution of freedom, liberty and democracy to a darker, Fascism, to finally a new world order.

A great man, a thinker said it so much better than I can ..”Anyone who trades liberty for security deserves neither liberty nor security” – Benjamin Franklin

I feel, that we could be in the very beginning of a new dark ages, the wish for those behind the scenes is to effectively go backwards before the Magna-Carta (1215) .. but here there is no King that the Barons (the very rich families, represented through their sometimes visible Corporate or banking face) will accept to limit them, including the puppets we call the elected government, these Barons are about power, their only high priests are money and power … and for the majority, life will be oppression, subjugation, terrorism, tyranny, democide, poverty, slavery and hunger.

At the moment via slow mass manipulation the very rich are combined in the efforts to create a “new world”, one that has few if any obstacles to improving their power and control. Our lives and individual quality of life are of little meaning to them unless it affects their plans. Their ultimate motivator is one of power fueled by entitlement, drive by an ideology. Today global trade agreements, actions against Unionism, and the individual countries conservative policies are removing more obstacles to their ascension.

I don’t foresee a technologically bereft society, but as in now technology will be used to surveil, monitor, to terrorize cruelly subjugate, to control and force conformity … such actions will be aggressive .. and as we know all these acts come from fear .. from a corrupt and flawed ideology .. a true terrorism.

This analysis not only applies to America, but all countries where Conservative Governments are either in power or are waiting for power. Currently this includes the USA, The United Kingdom and Australia.

I am not sure what I foresee will come from a thought out strategy, but in my view it will come, there seems to be two distinct America’s, one for perhaps the top 10-20% who come from Technology, Financial Services, old money structures, Corporate, Medical and the occassional new blood … and the balance the 80-90%% … those that the new America is not prioritising, the expendables – the low paid service class and what was the middle class, this is evident with of lack of funding for education, for fully maintained infrastructure (road, rail, bridges etc), the unaffordable and over priced substandard medical service … this will inevitably lead unless it is addressed to a very apparent class system in America … with the lower class providing the labour for industry and of course the human fodder for wars.

With the severe division in America, and the likely hood that the Conservative GOP will triumph in the next elections, will further enhance the power of the Conservatives to make the changes to the country to further engrain the divisions that already exist and further impovrish the 80-90% … the already disadvantaged, poorly educated will no doubt be swayed by the rhetoric to somehow bring the America they remember back … this is of course is impossible. The media which have been busy “Dividing and conquering” make sure that the poor are so scared of deviating from the dogma … espousing the virtues of a Kill or be killed, survival of the fittest capitalist society … the media will not allow the majority to align, so they can revolt …. once united, they would of course win against the ruling class – but Thomas Jefferson once said “I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical”.

At sometime in the future when they have achieved their aims, and the world is setup the way they wish, the 80-90% subjugated in slavery I mean, free thought condemned and forbidden, education along party lines, but ultimately it will not be enough for them, fights will break out amongst themselves, creating a new geographic break up of the world, old states may become new countries … and so the cycle of ultimate decay and destruction will move forward … the poor, the uneducated and the bureaucracy will all be subservient to the new order, fealty will be owed to these people who come from a world of a historical entitlement, Corporate Kings, like the Kings of Old … but they will be tomorrows Kings, who’s will have armies made up of all but them, the poor, us, serfs really … perhaps a way to become anything is to fight in their wars, the only avenue out of poverty … so reminiscent of the Roman Empire.

Does this sound like a 1000 years ago, the Dark Ages … a culture of dynasties, of entitled sovereigns (anointed no less by a manufactured legality, like our is) eventually alliances between these new countries will be made through marriage between the very rich, all to maintain the new world order into the future .. that will fail of course as everything does, as every culture has in the past and will in the future, we will have learnt nothing from the past until someone says “what happened last time we did this”?

But until it does, the new world order will have at least the following

1. No education other than what is absolutely necessary to fulfill your role.

2. A very defined and enforced Class structure

3. Relationships will be strictly controlled

4. Media and Information will be strictly managed and controlled + + +

5. Ruthless Military control by true believers – these will also expendable at the end of the day

6. Religion will be created or modified to express the wishes of the ruling class.

The thing that is overlooked, is that about a 1000 years ago, when we did this we had no capacity to really hurt Gaea, that we have already is self evident … what those behind the scenes don’t understand is that Gaea will not be neutral – she will have a say in the battles … her power is of a scale so far beyond ours that ours is inconsequential.

This is all in the public arena, you all know how this will happen, we have had 1984 and Animal Farm from George Orwell (about the ultimate breakdown and corruption of ideologies – as has happened in America and other countries), so many Films such as V for Vendetta about the how, and the resulting social and moral destruction that will follow, based on privilege and entitled acts – we have the experience of the Russian revolution, the Nazi’s, Pol Pot (and his killing fields), Yugoslavia, Armenia (massacre) – all believed they were creating a paradigm, some thought it would last a 1000 years … the trouble is all ideologies when they are enacted by ruthless zealots who “kill” … they have this belief that life will be great .. “when” …. the trouble is to get to that “when” millions or in our case billions might have to die …. for we will be expendable. As usual, the victor writes the history books, and the media is controlled, the spin masters will manufacture and write a palatable history.

When will such madness end? With the extinction of man? Will Gaea say enough is enough, and sweep us from the world and start again – or perhaps change will come by a spiritual revolution? I believe that mankind has the capacity to change, so long as we can change what we value .. the first step is changing what our children value …. nurturing our children, so no child is abused or forced to live in terror, by having their family murdered or worse still executed by say drone strikes … for all that brings their past and will just perpetuate the violence and the insanity.

Working on the beginning of the posts which I started last post, America: on the edge of the abyss – it’s a long journey I have started – strange there truly is nothing new under the sun.

I leave you with the thought, how many times has mankind repeated this scenario in history, because much of history is written by the victors and historians work from educated guesses – much of the rest in prejudice?

A Significant Life Challenge – what happens to our thinking …

February 18, 2015 Leave a comment

We go through life, one foot in front of the other, focusing on the next goal, the next thing, always the next thing …. then … life happens.

In my case a relationship, love – the use of silence and dogma as a weapon to whose only purpose was to hurt and exclude – this came from a group projection.

I had allowed myself to love the idea of someone and of a belief in the future to help others, the reality was something else indeed  … it was about all the most base of human fears, about control, about an ideology … for when the survival of a ideology becomes more important that the people within it, the ideology will always fail …. in this case my insight was that the ideology was false …. the most monumental challenge of my life was about to begin – I knew had to face it head on.

How we deal with life challenges such as grief or loss will also tend to follow a process – I know the more widely accepted model is the Kubler-Ross model, but I felt this was was more applicable to my own emotional or spiritual challenge

Stage One – SHOCK & DENIAL

We may react to learning of the Challenge with numbed, uncomprehending  disbelief. You may deny, frantically try to rationalize the reality of the loss in order to avoid the pain. The shock is normal, experience it, as it provides the emotional protection from being overwhelmed all at once. This may last for weeks or longer,

Stage Two – PAIN & GUILT

As the shock wears off, it is replaced with the suffering of profound pain –  this is normal, please try to experience the pain fully, and not hide from it, at this point is is incredibly important not to escape from it with alcohol or drugs.

Life feels chaotic, uncertain and scary at this point ..

Stage 3 – ANGER & BARGAINING

Frustration increases and may give way to anger, be aware that you may project this anger and anxiety onto family, friends or medical professionals –  be aware and try to control this, as permanent damage to your relationships may result. This is a time to look outwards and find ways to release the bottled up emotion.

You may shout at the rain, Why Me ? You may also try to bargain in vain with the powers that be for a way out of your despair (“I will never …. If… )

Stage 4 – “DEPRESSION”, REFLECTION, LONELINESS

A relatively long period of reflection may overtake you. This is a normal stage – flow with this, do not be “talked out of it” by well-meaning friends or family. Encouragement from others does not penetrate and serves no function but to increase the self doubt. For during this time, you finally comprehend the true magnitude of your loss, and it depression deepens, you may isolate yourself on purpose, reflect on things you did with your lost one, and focus on memories – this may be exacerbated by feelings of emptiness, despair and frustration and self doubt.

Stage 5 – THE UPWARD TURN-

As the reality of starting life without, your life becomes a little calmer and more organized. Your physical symptoms lessen, and your “depression” the feeling that your head feels like a sponge with no ability to think begins to lift.

Stage 6 – RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH-

As you become more functional, your mind starts working again, and you will find yourself looking for realistic solutions to the life challenge posed by life without your loved one. You start to work on practical ways of reconstructing yourself and your life.

Stage 7 – ACCEPTANCE & HOPE

During this, the last of the seven stages in this grief model, we learn to accept and deal with the reality of our situation. Acceptance doesn’t necessarily bring instant happiness.

Given the challenged face and the pain and turmoil you have experienced, you can never return to the carefree, untroubled YOU that existed before this tragedy. But you will find a way forward.

You will start to look forward and actually plan things for the future. Eventually, you will be able to think about your lost loved one without pain; sadness, yes, but the wrenching pain will be gone. You will once again anticipate some good times to come, and yes, even find joy again in the experience of living

I can see a light at the end of the tunnel and that light is me.

I spend a considerable time in nature … with the nurturing energies that help change my life … over time it brought new levels of consciousness and with that a new perspective on the ordinary and the journey itself.

I have also  gone deeply into mindful meditation and movement therapy such as Thai Chi and Chi Gong (Qigong) … it was the initial reason why I give to others by teaching mindful meditation and movement therapies like Qigong and Tai Chi. online and in person http://mindfulunion.wordpress.com

During mindful meditation I arrived at the point where we exist day to day in a continuous meditative state – along with the controlling our thoughts … and being more in a feeling state than a thinking state .. life becomes creative and peaceful, love and understanding pervade your every waking moment.

The State of a our Paradigm – 2014

June 8, 2014 Leave a comment

This has to be brief, as when you look at what is going on, one could fill a bookshelf …

Well since I wrote the last one in 2013 –  here –  a lot has happened …  I feel the paradigm is in it’s death throws, though those in power don’t know it yet, much could be ameliorated if only we would learn from history – even looking at the British even the Roman empires, but as Hegel said, one thing we can be sure of is that humanity never learns from history.

I feel that the problems are profound that beset this paradigm, half way through 2014 … much of it comes to the maturity of the paradigm, and the inability to see outside of the current beliefs .. except for some rare counties, like Iceland for instance … for most however the centralized command and control will disintegrate to transition, eventually to regional even community based priorities, I am not sure the change will be without issues, even assuming that Gaia herself, who is not passive as she is after all a life form, or should I say the pre-eminent life form, so far as we are concerned – our activity has taken her out of balance – hopefully she does not say enough is enough and issue an event on the world to get rid of the pesky humans … assuming she does not then we have a few problems that will come as a result firstly as the United States, withdraws from the world, leaving a power vacuum .. Which will be filled by the likes of Russia and China … however the contraction of the USA will have an effect on both Russia, whose major income source (in USD$) is energy (Oil and gas) and China manufacturing … both economies are at risk from a weakened and contracting America –  much of this relates to the USD$ itself (whilst it remains a reserve currency, which may also change) – worldwide, there will likely be a huge adjustment in global economies, where millions, perhaps hundreds of millions will be at risk.

Worldwide we are in a state of crisis, with those in Government being driven by fear as they run to control us … with the total invasion of the internet as detailed in the Snowden revelations .. through legislation, through money, through our beliefs, through manipulation by fear and scarcity, through blatant power .. the hang onto the past, the strangeness here is that they think they have the right to take these actions … this of course brings us to a whole new subject,  that of our underlying belief systems which is another post I am working on … mind you if we closely look at the basis of many beliefs, those which we have so far chosen to accept,  many are without foundation – but like every choice we are nationally and individually creating our future with it!

Governments further with a typical head in the sand approach from Politicians, denying what is happening all around us to the climate and continued pollution to the land, the water and the air we all breathe … meanwhile the still major driver at this stage of the paradigm, the USA is self destructing as consensus for a way forward cannot be reached, for my money, the main protagonists is the Tea Party, a section of religious fundamentalists,  who believe in the ideology of the bible .. but have little faith and zero love and compassion  (strange when Jesus said “love one another” ), for anyone including other Tea Party members as the organization is tribal in nature – appealing to the lowest common denominator of thinkers and those who believe in the America of old, mind you it is strange when you consider that the whole Tea party structure, although it originally began as a grass roots movement, in response to the Global meltdown, has been hi-jacked and is now running the agenda of Corporate America, under the visible guise of the Koch brothers, that at the very least.  Seriously, tell me what is the difference between the Taliban in Afghanistan and the Tea Party in the USA, that is beside the name – the desire to control women and their bodies is extreme ignorance … please note we have already had a time when the world was ruled by superstition, continuous warfare and religious ideology, it was a 1000 years ago and was called the dark ages for a reason.

The USA the hereto main driver of the world economies is financially compromised, still spending more money than it is earning, and more on defense that the next 10–15 countries combined .. strange when most of them are friendly .. I suppose because war and the weapons of war are a profit center – and of course a way to project the influence of the USA itself … Politically the US Government is incapable of passing any legislation to control Corporate power … such as making Corporations and individuals taxable on their entire world wide income .. because Corporate power is the true Government of the USA and indeed many other countries … I hope that the USA can find consensus and make the necessary changes in its priorities and ultimate direction as currently there is no will to do this, further examples such as with the EPA which knows that Fracking is a disaster as there is more than sufficient evidence, but is doing nothing .. visible .. both fresh water (essential for life) and land are polluted … similarly with GMO’s whose long term generational effects are unknown, is treating the whole population of the USA as Lab rats … sensibly some countries including Russia (which has a very large home grown food production base) which has made these genetically modified organisms illegal …  if GMO’s are so great why the huge campaign to stop the labeling of them on food supply –  that is surely what an open free and transparent Government would do … I am shaking my head here … does humanity have a death wish! … you have to wonder if these proponents of GMO food, are true believers and eat it, or it really is just about the money, power and control .. it would be interesting to see what is on their dinner plates.

Tensions break out all over the world in countries that are aggressive and fearful, this now includes a fearful America, and the thing that fear generates is aggression .. the use of drone strikes, disregards justice and the rule of law and the worst part is that it is now bureaucrats that decide who lives and who dies … I would not be surprised to one day see a drone strike within the USA – a desperate response from those in power to maintain control, even as the structure itself dies.

A cause of conflict in the future, may be centered on food and fresh water, so food sovereignty is a huge priority, second to that of course is fresh water … efficiency of food production is also an issue with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers confirming that up to 50% of all food never reaches a human stomach  see the link here – the full 36 page PDF Report is here

Where I live, the Government is also following the command and control paradigm into the abyss … just a step or two behind – mind you there is a huge amount of controversy and response from the people at the direction the Government wishes to head, so I am not sure how much will be implemented .. for I can foresee that the Prime Minister of Australia, will again be sacrificed for political survival of the party itself ..  really I’m not in favour of Political parties at all .. all representatives should be accountable only to those who elected them, no one else.

Change is one thing it seems, it is all pervasive as the world moves on, but acceptance of that change is clearly another thing, for Governments clearly have no idea of what to do, they are stuck with the greatest illusion, the one that says money has value, when it is just paper, backed by nothing more that the belief that it is has value – my old accountant Arthur told me that money is just squiggles on a piece of paper nothing more .. this will become abundantly clear after the next global financial meltdown, which will happen …  from which there will be no way back .. actually the planet and us will not survive unless the current economic system does fail.

Energy is the foundation of our society, it insulates us from the reality of climate and distance .. it powers transportation, refrigeration, heating and communications, everything in fact  … it is mission critical to our survival in our current numbers … while many are in agreement, that humanity in the current numbers and way of life, is a plague on the earth .. for the future will require us to seek balance with nature, renewable (only) energies, working with her to create a harmony – working from what we each need, not what we might want .. also by not trying to control her, so we can have an ideal way of life – we need to compromise.

The world should be running towards a totally renewable energy sources, with the total scaling back of non-renewable resources, such as oil  .. but it’s not … such a decision requires vision and foresight, and of course courage, something that most politicians do not have, as they are only looking at ways of being re-elected .. to say Politicians are out of touch with the average citizen is a true understatement.

I am thinking here of the quote by William Pitt, a former Prime Minister of Great Britain “Necessity was the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It was the argument of tyrants; it was the creed of slaves – William Pitt” – we see this every day in relation to “security services” – the supression of the independance of that media that is not control by the Corporates … in the USA, the Military / Industrial / Intelligence industries are in charge and of course the Patriot Act and other controls that are being placed on the freedom of ordinary citizens …  I have spoken before about the likelihood of civil unrest and possibly the cessation of an increasing number of States from the Union, even as far back as 2009 the prospect of Civil war in the USA … not sure that this is as likely anymore as many people are generally without hope, and distractions of the Gun debate, Blame, War, politics, gambling, the media, beer and sports are distractions and their world view is blatantly manipulated by the media and by Governments, who blame anyone but themselves and control through fear and scarcity … if however an event occurs, that triggers a confrontation between citizens and Government, then there is a huge amount of firepower available to Governments to “maintain order” – a that time the dream of freedom that was America will truly be dead and will be consigned to legend along with the legend of Arthur and Camelot … mind you a method of controlling citizens will work until the first soldier says no to killing an unarmed fellow citizen.

The once powerful middle class has been decimated and are scared of what is happening (of course)  those is power, who are at fault (of course) because of their inability to navigate the new circumstances will blame anyone but themselves (divide and rule), the current favorite, totally unjustifiably is that Politicians blame Americas woes on the homeless or the out of work, who are of course the most vulnerable in society, some states have it together, for instance Utah who has given homeless people a place to live, no strings attached … but elsewhere they are seeking to deny the issue of homelessness even exists by outlawing feeding these, the most vulnerable in a society, including children,  .. together with the recent revelations about the Veterans Administration, and their total inability to treat with honour those who fought for their country … my feeling about the future is guarded to say the least.

But there is hope, if we change what we value, to disregard the media and their manipulation driven by their Corporate owners and focus on our neighbours, decide and support what you value and disregard what you don’t … most importantly our local communities are where we should create.  Worldwide we should be looking to ourselves for survival, turning green spaces over to growing food, recycling and conserving water… .. truly it’s not that far away, I imagine, where we will be digging up parking lots to grow food – perhaps check out the Incredible Edible Todmorden a visionary free food project that has been replicated worldwide – http://bit.ly/1oEMO05 & http://bit.ly/1ih3ftR

It will be a little while yet, but we are definitely in transition from the old paradigm of conflict, command and control to one of love, collaboration, community, co-existence and communication .. and of course balance … let me be just one to say welcome! –  I hope we make it, I hope you make it, and I hope I make it as well … but the most important thing is that our children do.

By the very nature of this medium, this has to be an outline, not a point by point detailed exposse  .. but If you feel I have this wrong, please do not hesitate to contact me …

Hugs … Please have some Empathy and understanding for the lives of others – for everyone is doing their best they know how …

For me, what is real, comes down to Love, compassion, sharing and Kindness, for these are truly of value

The end of business as usual …

Life is good for many of us, so that it’s hard to confront the change that is here, and with that the inevitable end of the quality of life that we see around us.

So it strikes me as obvious that the world is going down a road, in some ways where civilizations have gone before, but not for the same reasons, we are in fact going down a one way road, to the destruction of what is, that we have come to consider as normal.

The reasons are self evident, they come back to greed and the need for ever more growth, leveraged growth, more .. more …  all are unsustainable flawed strategies –  I ask you how can one achieve continual growth in a finite world … this insatiable need for more … we have been all living in a fantasy land, especially the Politicians, who are convinced as they focus on statistics and spin, that they are doing a great job when all around, their citizens are paying the price for their inability to have a real original thought – their incompetence, their lack of leadership, their focus only on re-election, their terror at the inevitability of change – drives them to makes nice little touches around the edge of policy whilst the heart of the country decays and we lumber forward, down the wrong path.

This insatiable greed of a few, has brought us beyond the brink of a global financial meltdown, we are in fact toppling over the edge into oblivion as we speak … whole countries and regions are already suffering in the Euro zone, but the whole world will be within the inevitability of what is to come … our mindless pursuit of the status quo .. has indebted the majority of those in the present to virtual serfdom whilst those in control … known colloquially as the 1% .. but who are in reality probably more like just 10,000 people around the word, are so afraid of change that they have convinced our Politicians (who are only driven by the need to be re-elected) that they need to maintain the status quo, this flawed and failed financial structure – which has little benefit to the majority 99+%, except more of the same.

It is time we allowed the system to fail, we no longer have the ability to prop it up –  we have to stop, mortgaging future generation to pay for our mistakes or steal their birthright … our beautiful home, this spaceship called earth.

When I walk around cities, I see the crumbling structures, both in stone and in systems that are struggling to maintain what we once were, I see lots of papering over the cracks, whilst the infrastructure rusts and crumbles away in silence.

Within the decade we are in, what is hidden now, will become visible to all, in the first instance with the failure of the Euro$, where whole governments are desperately trying to hang on by their finger nails … they will fail … the inevitable collapse will spark a world wide financial meltdown that has never been witnessed in history. In the United States, cities and states are even now technically bankrupt … what will happen when the Euro zone of some other key point in the chain fails .. the banks will fail … there can be no bailout .. change will be here –  this global correction will affect everyone in every country, those who think they are immune are living in fantasy land – this new reality will inflict misery and unrelenting hardship on everyone.

It will not be fun … in fact I cannot see an upside in the short term … it may take a couple of decades perhaps a generation before we can get back on our knees … maybe as long as a 50 years to a century before we can stand up and face the future with any sort optimism … the only way we have any chance of a future, is by changing what we value.

The OWS … the Occupy movement is a symptom, and a necessary one …. in American the Constitution has been and is being continually walked into the mud, whilst those in power seek to silence those who would say … we have a problem .. sadly, the world economy is past the ability to be healed … change is here Ladies and Gentlemen, hang on, because we are in for the ride of our lives, the destination, the abyss –  the outcome unknown … some of us will come out the other side … but very few … for us to survive, and have the capacity to we will have to have the ability to think outside of the box and really work together without agendas, and realise that economies are not about numbers … they are about fully utilizing all of us, for the benefit of all of us ….

I have spoken of this before back in between 2008 and now … then it was a warning .. now it is too late … money will be irrelevant to our future … the accumulation of wealth for its own sake, is now past its use by date … when it happens, from then on, and in the short to medium term, the only thing that will matter is being able to be sustainable in food, in shelter and energy …

Good Luck …

Limits to Growth

Why are we here? And how did we get here… I think you will find that is the question that people should be asking now, and will be asking more and more over the coming years.

Let us look at history just for a while, something which we almost never do, there have been Oh so many instances which we can point to where we as a species, did not learn from the past, and there are two culprits for this beside arrogance and all of the platitudes, like “it can’t happen to me”, “Think positive”, “it will all work out” … this position we are in for one reason, the resources of the planet are finite, the call and demand for those resources by the ever increasing population is causing the very scarcity of the resources to finally be brought into focus… the old scarcity principle is well and truly alive, the trouble is this time it really is real.

Why are we surprised with this… since the Club of Rome was formed in 1968 and with their first major publication in 1972 was Limits to Growth – the Club of Rome, seems to have as its charter .. “to act as a global catalyst for change through the identification and analysis of the crucial problems facing humanity and the communication of such problems to the most important public and private decision makers as well as to the general public.”

The original report, examines fives variables which are: world population, industrialization, pollution, food production and resource depletion.

An update to the original report came out after 20 years, and another after 30 years (published in 2004). Another is expected in the short term, the 40 year report.

In 2008 Graham Turner at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Australia published a paper called “A Comparison of `The Limits to Growth` with Thirty Years of Reality”. It examined the past thirty years of reality with the predictions made in 1972 and found that changes in industrial production, food production and pollution are all in line with the book’s predictions of economic and societal collapse in the 21st century.

There is huge controversy about some of the claims made in the books, however in essence it sheds light on a simple fact, that resources are finite and are therefore limited. This is so important when we look at non-sustainable energy resources such as Petroleum based products (that currently underlies our entire way of living), rather than using sustainable resources for all our product needs. This of course gets me to another issue, we need an alternative to petroleum products, not to convert basically many food based crops, such as corn etc, as a base for maintaining the status quo and further polluting the atmosphere, we need dramatic research into a sustainable ways to produce hydrogen, as well as any other form of sustainable ways to produce, portable and peak load electrical energy (the somewhat mythical cold fusion comes to mind), some positive early work is already evident – much more emphasis on this work needs to be shown.

If we cannot find a sustainable energy source, what do u think will happen to the civilisation as we know it.. as one of the biggest problems with a global market, is how do you ship products from one point to another when there are no oil products to power the ships, road transport, farming machinery and of course airlines. It seems on the outside looking in , countries should be looking to provide incentives to their local industries to at least make them self sustaining in the essentials of life, food, clean water, and shelter – and being communal animals.. a community.

Any thoughts…?
