The Sleeper has awakened – Charlie Chaplin; The Great Dictator Speech (1940)

This speech by Charlie Chaplin in the Great Dictator 1940 (directed by Hans Zimmer), is seemingly even more relevant today.

Without change, our Species prognosis is extinction – unless we take time to understand & value the people behind the labels we apply ..

Oxymoron a definition

Here is the link to the New Scientist Article.. here

Only a military or amoral person would talk about a “safer’ bomb… its got to be definition of an Oxymoron… so a contradiction in terms.. the only safe bomb is one you never make… let alone drop..the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico it littered with 10’s of 1000’s of tons of munitions… going back as far and perhaps before WWII

Developing a science for killing people and destruction… what a very strange species we are…

From now on…

I posted this from my personal blog… in it the message is clear… go forward (even at a shuffle) and embrace the world and the future with energy, love, honour, truth and fairness, with your God…

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they
are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it
is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially
do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding
as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

A New World…

March 11, 2010 Leave a comment

There is no point postulating why we are here… we all know why…In the commercial and corporate world there needs to be changes in the basic way we judge performance… and this will mean we need to change the underlying motivations (this will require a huge paradigm shift… this kind of shift usually only comes about after a dramatic event) … and the laws and regulations that are built on them….however the whole structure we call civilisation is in grave danger of blowing in the wind… by just running around putting out fires… the usual response from Governments, the people who have little original thought…. these people are great at spin, and putting a positive face on something that has no positive aspect… the US and many others Economies are in a deep almost irrevocable situation – the only positive aspect there is that is will pave the way for a new world order…. this will happen by revolution unless somebody takes the leadership…  but I do not think any form of leaderships has the balls to do what is needed…. and so all this political spin and noise (which will not change anything) –  which is in essence is inactivity is going to be the death knell of the financial commercial world (which underlies our whole way of life) as we know it. There is huge anger brewing in the population, after denial in the grief process we then have anger…   it is a basic part of our make up… and it is something that cannot be diminished by spin…   I think the depth of this anger is being undervalued…

I published an article about a scenario of dramatic civil unrest in the world, particularly the USA (due to the easy availability of weapons) .. and right now I see only negatives.. no positives… for instance… no matter how much the USA needs a Universal Health system (and it does need one), now is not the time to bring one in… (due to the debt burden it will manifest) soon the national underlying debt of the US economy and many others including my own… will reach those of a banana republic…. and once that stage is reached ….its only a matter of when, not if there will be civil unrest… big time… the rule of law will be on the line … and we will have a revolution… maybe not a full drawn out Civil war type but it will be real (it will be the end of the status quo at the very least)… with one side (the government) using everything in their power to maintain a self destructive march into the chasm, the rights and values that the founding fathers hold dear… those underlying the US constitution will be revoked… and the other side… normal people will be trying to get some say over their own lives…. and some quality of life for themselves and their families.

Also remember, now a large sector of the population have little if not nothing to lose. So is civil unrest an possibility…. I have spoken about this before … here https://ozroamer.wordpress.com/2009/08/19/civil-war-in-the-usa/

The end result, especially if Government’s use the Army or National guards against their own citizens is a foregone conclusion.

Then we will have a great period of anarchy…. but after all this and the feeling our way in the dark a new basis for the world will put up its hand… it will be different… and we will need to try and come to terms with it… because in the end, it may not be based on individual or corporate greed, the problem now is the majority of people are in financial servitude to their Feudal Lord… their bank, their boss or their governments. This cannot go on.

There is a huge Political chasm between the Conservatives and the Democrats that seems to have no resolution, not even perhaps with the cost being the USA itself … I believe we are on incredibly dangerous ground, so perhaps before 2016, we will see prominent signs.

I am confident that the necessary changes to stop this or at least postpone it will NOT be made within the current financial and political system… I see little hope of anything that could make a difference being done – so we are all in for a new experience…. I am not diminishing the seriousness of such changes, especially on our own personal freedoms and safety…. but when the smoke clears… until the message and the morals are again corrupted .. there will a new moral paradigm.

I hope I am wrong… but I don’t think I am.

Being a whole person

A little voice inside of me …. came from afar… from a really good friend … who has quantified something that has been growing inside of me for years… in essence “feelings” which allow you to live in the moment… in the now… isn’t that what we all need to do… live for the moment… it is far better than to live in the past, or the future…..  to live in the now is my goal…..  but most of all, I want us to feel the impact on others of our thoughts and actions … when we use our force or manipulation to hurt other souls or to hurt ourselves or Gaia… all of these actions we do for expediency (with the supposed hypothesis of “the end justifies the means” – the end is never justified by corrupt, un-ethical or means without thought or honour) or to shore up the insecurities in ourselves, but surely, as with all misdeeds we inflict on others, by the very nature of Karma, such actions will always come back to bite us, as they should.

Remember there is a bigger picture…. and everything that happens is not always about you.

Really I just want you to think…  do think before you act…. to that end I would like to present you with a talk from Eve Ensler by way of Ted Talks… I hope it at least makes you think…  if the embedded link doesn’t work, then please click here Eve Ensler Program

A Philosophy of Living

September 23, 2008 Leave a comment

We start off with all these plans and dreams about what we think we want – to make us happy, then life happens and we end up in a totally different place, with a totally new outlook, dreams and goals – as you move towards our destiny – funny that.

I have been approached to run a major Hospital in India – coming out of the media management – I would never have applied for this position in India – but the more I think about it – with my skills – the more I think about the concept the more I want to know. However dealing with India is not like business as we know it – a friend of mine qualifies his experience with dealing with India as a new introduction to patience.  He’s quite right – you send off a simple enquiry – and 2 weeks later you get a response – which doesn’t really answer your initial question – its worse than watching a really slow game of cricket, or watching grass grow – mind you I don’t really mind grass at all.

But I believe this is all for a reason – so I am content and will wait and see what develops.

The Universe is quite amazing – in the last year – I have taken to asking questions of the Universe whilst in bed just before I go to sleep – it works – well should I say its beginning to work.  My first question was to ask “Show me abundance” – and after asking for that night and the next… I had this most amazing experience – a dream if you like – but not a dream – its almost impossible to articulate the experience – but lets say I believe – all I say is be open to anything.  So now if I have a question or even need help I just ask – of course I do say please and thank you – not kidding here.

To a friend – who was having difficulty with Meditation – I said the following – In the beginning, Meditation is difficult – it is hard.  Just don’t try and quantify your performance – my suggestion would be to when you start, inevitably you will drift – your mind will start thinking about – “What colour will I paint the wall” – for instance – just let the thought come and go – don’t chastise yourself or judge yourself – just move on to the next period of calm..and after a number of attempts as time goes by – you will have longer and longer periods in the place – make sure that you are in a place of calm in you house – of peace and tranquility – or at very least a place of quiet – such a place will help you in these early days.  Soon you will be able to slip in and out of meditation as one moves into a new room in your home, whilst you are on the train to work, in a cab, please just don’t it whilst you are driving or in charge of machinery of any kind.

I purposely started my journey to this new place about 3–4 years ago, probably more, yes I believe I am the road to this….this, the how I am meant to live my life – it started slowly, but inexorably with changes in my outlook, my personality – I find that, I guess you could say I am often a peace and feel real contentment – I am still anxious about the future occasionally – but I have a simple way of handling this – I bring my thoughts back to now – you cannot live in the past about for instance what happened to you when you were a child, in you earlier relationship – bringing those experiences to today only amplifies the problems – just let it go, you cannot alternatively live in the future – if you do the future will never be – and it bring anxious thoughts of “what if” to you in the here and now – try to live and experience now – and let the thoughts of your future of past – just them go.

The things I have learnt most of all – is be patient – it normally won’t happen overnight and secondly any step forward – actually just any step, a shuffle – is great.

Actually even though I am so interested in this job in India – I have found that I am handling it better than I have in the past – by just not investing myself in it – I think about new people I shall meet – of a different life and then it go.  If it doesn’t happen, well I will move on and try again…. to learn more about the way I tick…

I am now ready for a new relationship – but again – I will not invest emotionally in it, until it is real – I cannot  live in the future of what might be, until it does – then I shall be living in the here and now, the present.

Remember be grateful for every second, be grateful for what you have, be grateful for your friends – then you are really moving forward.

If none of this rings a bell with you, there no fault or error in that, what works for me, may not work for you…  but you need to find out what does work for you…  you need to spend the most important single person in your future that you know – that’s YOU – give it time,  and you will find out what works for you…  don’t expect it to resolve overnight,  if it does great !

AIG, Lehman Bros and Mogan Stanley …

September 16, 2008 Leave a comment

It seems that the bigger you are the better – with AIG – you are dealing with a critical part of the world financial infrastructure.

AIG has over 70 million customers in over 100 countries with 116,000 employees (2007) with assets in excess of a trillion dollars – that is impressive – but that is not the key to the reason why they must survive – the company insures bank loans worldwide, as well as risks on all sorts of hard and soft assets,  it insures deals and investments across the globe – would have a far greater impact on financial markets than Lehman’s collapse.

If the company were to fail, many banks and investment funds in the US and worldwide world would lose their insurance cover at a time when defaults on payments are likely to rise.

The bail out of some USD$85 billion dollars – which will take control of 80% of the share holding into the Public ownership, is not a small purchase, however the Federal Reserve has initiated the buy out and will take control of 80% of the company, will also most likely remove its management, in a similar fashion to the way it took control of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac which were crippled by the US housing crisis.

Due to the market slump, AIG was badly affected by the collapse of the US housing market, owing to the underwriting payments it was forced to make when customers defaulted on their loans.

I wonder if they will change their thinking, I wonder if they will continue to pay bonuses – now of course with Public money… could they be so stupid ?

Lehman Brothers

It has been released that Barclays Bank (UK) has said that it had reached a deal to buy Lehman’s US investment banking and capital markets businesses.  This well timed purchase will cost Barclays some USD$250 million – but still has to be approved by the US Bankruptcy court. If approved this will make Barclays the third biggest investment bank in the US.

Barclays have also confirmed that subject to approval they will also purchase Lehman’s New York headquarters, as well as its two data centres in New Jersey for $1.5bn.

Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley confounded critics last night by releasing a forecast-beating third-quarter results designed to fiercely combat suggestions that its independence may be in jeopardy, the investment bank, which had been due to unveil its results later today, reported a profit of USD$1.43bn for the three months to August – 2.8pc down on the same period last year, but beating analysts’ expectations by 69pc.

Chairman and chief executive John Mack stressed that the results had been achieved “despite unprecedented market conditions” and said that the bank had continued to reduce its legacy positions and carefully manage its risk, capital and liquidity.  Shares in Morgan Stanley, rose almost 9pc in extended trading after Wall Street had closed for the day.

Worldwide Fallout

The Bank of England and the Bank of Japan have also injected almost USD$40 billion and almost USD$25 billion respectively into the money markets.  The Australian Reserve bank has injected over AUD$4 billion into the local market – the reason for this response in these and other markets is to alleviate and hopefully lessen the inter bank rate – that rate at which Banks lend money to each other – this money release is something that they has been happening worldwide on a on-going basis since the start of this total loss of confidence – called the credit crunch.

Some observations – if you think about the money side – much of the money that has been printed in the last 10 years has ended up in the pockets of the top 5% and it is now that money that is being destroyed – but what about those investors who aren’t the top 5% – what about the normal Mr & Mrs America who were relying on these investments perhaps for their retirement?

Australia – Babcock & Brown & MacQuarie

The downgrading of Babcock and Brown by S&P as there is talk of the possibility that B&B may default.

This whole business model relying on cheap debt is no longer viable – difficulties surround the MacQuarie Business model as well.  The era of these types of business models is no longer sustainable.

Conclusion:

This whole mess has dealt an irrevocable blow to the old boys club – all of the banks and institutions KNOW that their own books are in a mess so they rightly assume everyone else’s is as well – which means that nobody can or will deal.  Confidence and trust is what we are dealing with here – and only time can see this grow back.
