Beliefs and Ideologies – Part 4

I find this to be difficult, to observe and interpret without projecting my beliefs, so I may take a break from the darkness, I know there is much to discover, but after this I think I will look at the wonderful positives of this paradigm, I shall look for joy and good news … for the last thing we can do is assume that the world is full of darkness, it is in fact full of a vast number of good people doing the best they can to make a better world, very few are in positions of authority or influence – and then we have others who are seriously out of their depth!

Let’s look at the birds, and animals of all descriptions, they need no dogma, no belief system, yet they live a life as they wish and are truly free … why can’t we, or at least being able to thrive in a more open, loving society – it’s in our hands to create it, but right now we are in the opposite, a combative, divisive culture that has been created, I believe to serve a different agenda.

But let’s first look at what a belief system can create, this is only one, others in detail maybe markedly different, but how those in that belief bubble relate to those outside of their belief system generally is not … a community I know contains some very good people, who are convinced of an ideology. I guess if we were to label their beliefs (which I hesitate to do) they have a doomsday belief system, it is their belief that the world is coming to an end and what they are doing is creating the future, yet their behaviour is not what one would expect from such a goal, it has become over time judgemental and lacking compassion – it is my view that this behaviour comes from projecting the beliefs of the tribe onto everything – all thoughts, things, systems and people are judged, and those that do not believe as they believe are seen as having little relevance or value to their goals – for they, like most of us, are in a prison of their beliefs, constrained by the purpose given by the ideology, its familiarity and importantly their attachments to the people within it – this is a tiny example of the effects of ideological belief systems, all of these come from an embryo to be born, evolve and in their time die!

For the above example, I agree that this paradigm, most of what we exist within is coming to an end – however to consider that this community are the way forward is based in a belief system, an ideology, it may be pointed out that when people over-identify with an ideology, a prophetic expectation, everything is secondary. If the event that is prophesied does not manifest there will be a huge life challenge to those within the belief system. There are many good people within this particular dynamic that may be damaged, for such a long term investment in an ideology would cause havoc, if or when the date of the event arrives – I hope they come through this challenge, grown and expanded to help others.

In the transitions between ideologies, perhaps not everything has to be lost, because we could learn so much from the past, and transition to something that came about through the sum of our experiences – however one thing we know about humanity, is we never learn from the past, (goodness if only an objective history was taught in all schools) for as George Santayana and others such as Bernard Shaw and Hegel have said.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana

“Governments have never learned anything from history, or acted on principles deducted from it” – Hegel

This particular paradigm, controls us (in a broad herd sense), by deliberately targeting the ancient part of our mind, where our emotions live (and where all decisions are made – have you ever thought “that feels right”?) this targeting is done in advertising all the time. However, the targeting of our beliefs and prejudices, is designed to manipulate us, mainly through fear – there are many ways, but an example of this is by giving us something or someone to blame for our lot in life (a minority perhaps, separate from the majority mainstream, in the culture – to target our prejudices – it may be a persons, race, heritage, religion, origins, colour or perhaps as recently demonstrated, the Lesbian and Gay community ) – when triggered we then don’t reflect and respond, we react and hopefully at sometime we may regret our precipitous actions … the only way to stop such reactions is through relationships and via the education of all people. But to achieve the outcome that is desired by various Governments, this paradigm, has been designed, or has evolved to appeal to the worst in us, instead of the best in us.

All things, are constantly in transition, we can go back in history, for previous instances to look at a major and revered religious belief system, and one aspect of the future foretold through it. Let’s choose one, perhaps the Hindu religion and their forecast of events (something I have only recently investigated, excuse any ignorance on my part) … With Hinduism we are at the end of the Kali Yuga age, a period where mankind’s ethics, honour, religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, forgiveness, mercy, vitality and memory have all decreased more and more over time. Look below at some of the markers of this Kali Yuga period sound familiar to you, they do to me; just remember these words were written over 4,000 years ago.

  • A man’s qualities and social position will be calculated according to the extent of his wealth
  • Religious principles and justice will be determined by a show of strength
  • Those without money will be unable to get justice
  • Anyone who can cleverly juggle words will be considered a scholar.
  • Lack of wealth will be looked on as dishonourable.
  • A proud person who can put on a show will be thought pious
  • The purpose of life will consist simply of filling one’s stomach, and audacity will become equivalent to conclusive truth.
  • A person’s religiosity will be measured by a person’s reputation for material accomplishments
  • The citizens will be so oppressed by merciless rogues in the guise of rulers

Hinduism is rare as far as Religions go, as it has evolved without any discernible controls, it has grown organically like a flower blooming. It has no founder or date of origin. The authors and dates of most Hindu sacred texts are unknown. Scholars describe modern Hinduism as the product of religious development in India that spans nearly four thousand years, making it the oldest surviving world religion – but Hinduism is not a homogeneous, organized system. Many Hindus are devoted followers of Shiva or Vishnu, whom they regard as the only true God, while others look inward to the divine Self (atman). But most recognize the existence of Brahman, a spiritual concept in Hinduism, the highest Universal, the Ultimate Reality, the unifying principle and Supreme Reality behind all that is.

Perhaps there would be less conflict if we could all see, in our separate God’s the same mother of us all, the Earth and the Universe herself.

Actually, we are drifting way off topic, apologies – for this is also a belief system, which I am only just investigating, but Hinduism is the oldest of current day religions of such great antiquity, coming after would be many, including Buddhism, Jainism plus many, many more – other religions such a Christianity and Islam are quite new in comparison … but I must always remind myself not to project my own beliefs onto the topic, which I know is unavoidable, but I shall try!

Now let’s come back to today, I am concerned how belief systems in general, when they become accepted and normal, such that they are reinforced by Government and the mass media are used to place humanity in a prison of beliefs, to impose moral and behavioural codes, to convince us that this is the way it is, where the walls of the prison is the dogma and belief systems of this paradigm, reinforced by those that wish us to be in prison, for in this place, we are controlled and controllable, we conform generally to certain code of acceptable behaviour (and are punished if we transgress) which is  reinforced by Government in its many forms – for this paradigm is all about the illusions created by the dogma itself. Since the beginning of recorded time, people’s beliefs have contributed to the dogma of a certain age … everything around us is dogma, and by living within it without questioning it, we become, perhaps not actively, but are complicit in its continuation. At some point, under critical analysis, the belief systems that for decades perhaps centuries has been evolving, under pinning all civilisations will fail and like a game of dominoes the paradigm itself fails. Then everything will be as ashes to fertilize something new.

As with any ideology, and let’s face it the world abounds with them, for all Religions and ism’s (Capitalism, socialism, communism, fascism etc) are belief systems, quite wonderful in theory for many have wonderful attributes and goals, but there is a fatal flaw common to all ideologies and belief systems – they often falter and fail because at some point the survival of the belief system becomes more important than the individuals within it (the one’s the belief system is meant to serve) – this can be seen in every established system such as the Catholic Church, Church of England and others … Governments and their various departments, become populated with people who are so detached from the population in politics or a bureaucracy, their beliefs value only the continuation of the ideology (or their agenda), and their advancement within it, over time, the system and the promise it held in theory (say at the beginning), becomes more important that the people it is meant to serve, it fails and dies, primarily through expedience, for this holds a multitude of sins.

When large belief systems are initially executed, we have seen expedient war crimes such as democide and genocide carried out in it’s name (Cambodia, Yugoslavia, Syria (ISIS)), when threatened (or perhaps only questioned), there can be no limit to the atrocities that will be carried out. We have seen this in Nazism, Fascism, Communism and in the present day with the oppression and inequalities coming from the Capitalist economies, which we have not seen climax as yet. These paradigms that support a version of the world have great inertia, but now (I believe) that our current one is already in the process of collapsing, within 10 to 15 years, definitely 30 years at best, we will see only a crumbled facsimile around us.

One wonders at the emphasis on the un-funding of Public education that is apparent in many countries, (here I speak of Australia and the USA) is it based on creating an uneducated class who are ignorant of anything unless it comes from a TV screen or is only employment focused. Let’s remember here that only the educated are free … so perhaps if we are not educated we will be compliant, and controllable … it is well know that the desire to control, to have others conform comes from fear as does aggression….

I have often used the metaphor that “Politics is theatre, and the players primary focus is to stay on stage, centre stage” – but perhaps we, the people should be on stage and in the spotlight and they, those who would administer us to move us towards our an equitable future, should be listening to us – or perhaps it is that this person is not frankly up to the task.

Within every ideology, those outside of the belief bubble (the un-indoctrinated or those that question the difference between the proclaimed belief systems, the words of the officers and their actions) those who have different thoughts about the system are seen as a threat … all religions, ideologies and “isms” do this, they exclude, shame or oppress others who are within it and who question it. We can see that these separate belief systems strike at the very heart of who people think that they are …. hence it is becomes highly subjective, when Political rhetoric is targeted at these points, to postulate that a certain “groups” behaviour is to blame – emotive reactions (without reflective thought abound, people react, from fears, they don’t respond) are the uneducated normal response.

Something that I have never understood about America is that people identify themselves by the Political and Religious beliefs – to me such beliefs, the who I vote for and what I believe are highly personal and private…. but perhaps this strategy, unconscious or not, is by putting these beliefs out there, it is immediately saying, this is what I believe and who I am … and if you don’t believe the same … well … it isn’t going to be fun connecting with me, and forming a relationship, how though, on this basis can dialogue between differing views, to be open to discussing new ideas, that may lead to a consensus exist? Such behaviour perpetuates and exacerbates division within society.

The way forward is in education of all, is in open and non-judgemental discussion … it’s in co-operation and co-existence, a way forward for the whole of humanity instead of only a small minority who have become a prisoner of their beliefs that we, the majority of the population do not matter …. I’ve said this before, if we continue down this path, the moment that the Mum’s and Dad’s of the world, loose hope and know to be true that no matter what they do their children are condemned to poverty and servitude, then the world will have its revolution, and those that have this entitled, privileged position should remember that those that work for them do not have their point of view, so when it comes to a choice to support their families or their employers, the situation is decided.

The Hindu Religious Kali Yuga period is coming to an end shortly, it postulates that there will be a period of dramatic change over a long period … is this when those that remain in humanity will see that humanity is but one family, that all life, whatever the species has the same value, that humanity is just one species, not the species … God (if and however you perceive), I hope so!

Meditation – a beginning

February 22, 2015 Leave a comment

From my new blog A Mindful Union –

Let’s look at an overview of meditation itself

For me, I believe we don’t meditate to find peace. We meditate to be at peace with what we find – in Mindfulness meditation we develop the ability to accept the emotions and feelings that occur during the meditation.

For meditation, we need to develop the ability to stay present. What I mean by that is to stay in the moment, without reliving the past or having expectations about the future.

Imagine yourself meditating half way down a long hallway in a house, from the front door to the back door. The thoughts come in the front door, you note them and accept them (for they are you) … then you lightly move on, without engaging in the thought itself, (it will go, once you don’t validate it) the thought then moves on down the hallway and out the back door, it may come back, each time it does follow the same process, it will lose its urgency its .. you need to engage with me.

The thought may be about the past (depression, regret or shame perhaps) or about the future, such as anxiety or fear about a forthcoming event, or perhaps the fear of loss. We cannot  invest or follow the thought (no matter how important or urgent it seems), for the moment we do, we drop out of meditation, because we are no longer present, so we can no longer be mindful.

Once we regularly meditate, we develop mindfulness, in part it allows us to understand what we can change, and what we can’t – to detach from things we cannot control, for instance, other people’s action (or any influence outside of us) that effects us.  I find now, that mindfulness itself is not difficult, but what is difficult is to remember to be mindful in our day to day lives.

Note; Mediation is not something to be achieved, it is something we have to be the person to properly meditate – it can be a slow process of becoming, but take heart, even sitting on a mat for 30 seconds with a clear mind, is worth celebrating, remember little steps forward – often. Each day if you truly wish it, it will get better it – but it does takes time – remember nothing worth having is a easy fix.

Sleep – the great restorer

Once I regularly meditated, it affected my whole life. Sleep, became deep and restorative. Sleep, especially uninterrupted sleep can be elusive, yet mindfulness meditation assisted me in getting more restorative regular sleep, without medication.

Mindfulness meditation can allow us to gradually develop greater control over our emotions, which leads to clarity of thought in difficult situations. For me the revelation was that once I realised that everything changes, nothing seems to be that imperative in the moment, remember it’s not the situation that is causing you pain, it is your thoughts about the situation.

A Significant Life Challenge – what happens to our thinking …

February 18, 2015 Leave a comment

We go through life, one foot in front of the other, focusing on the next goal, the next thing, always the next thing …. then … life happens.

In my case a relationship, love – the use of silence and dogma as a weapon to whose only purpose was to hurt and exclude – this came from a group projection.

I had allowed myself to love the idea of someone and of a belief in the future to help others, the reality was something else indeed  … it was about all the most base of human fears, about control, about an ideology … for when the survival of a ideology becomes more important that the people within it, the ideology will always fail …. in this case my insight was that the ideology was false …. the most monumental challenge of my life was about to begin – I knew had to face it head on.

How we deal with life challenges such as grief or loss will also tend to follow a process – I know the more widely accepted model is the Kubler-Ross model, but I felt this was was more applicable to my own emotional or spiritual challenge

Stage One – SHOCK & DENIAL

We may react to learning of the Challenge with numbed, uncomprehending  disbelief. You may deny, frantically try to rationalize the reality of the loss in order to avoid the pain. The shock is normal, experience it, as it provides the emotional protection from being overwhelmed all at once. This may last for weeks or longer,

Stage Two – PAIN & GUILT

As the shock wears off, it is replaced with the suffering of profound pain –  this is normal, please try to experience the pain fully, and not hide from it, at this point is is incredibly important not to escape from it with alcohol or drugs.

Life feels chaotic, uncertain and scary at this point ..

Frustration increases and may give way to anger, be aware that you may project this anger and anxiety onto family, friends or medical professionals –  be aware and try to control this, as permanent damage to your relationships may result. This is a time to look outwards and find ways to release the bottled up emotion.

You may shout at the rain, Why Me ? You may also try to bargain in vain with the powers that be for a way out of your despair (“I will never …. If… )

A relatively long period of reflection may overtake you. This is a normal stage – flow with this, do not be “talked out of it” by well-meaning friends or family. Encouragement from others does not penetrate and serves no function but to increase the self doubt. For during this time, you finally comprehend the true magnitude of your loss, and it depression deepens, you may isolate yourself on purpose, reflect on things you did with your lost one, and focus on memories – this may be exacerbated by feelings of emptiness, despair and frustration and self doubt.

As the reality of starting life without, your life becomes a little calmer and more organized. Your physical symptoms lessen, and your “depression” the feeling that your head feels like a sponge with no ability to think begins to lift.

As you become more functional, your mind starts working again, and you will find yourself looking for realistic solutions to the life challenge posed by life without your loved one. You start to work on practical ways of reconstructing yourself and your life.

During this, the last of the seven stages in this grief model, we learn to accept and deal with the reality of our situation. Acceptance doesn’t necessarily bring instant happiness.

Given the challenged face and the pain and turmoil you have experienced, you can never return to the carefree, untroubled YOU that existed before this tragedy. But you will find a way forward.

You will start to look forward and actually plan things for the future. Eventually, you will be able to think about your lost loved one without pain; sadness, yes, but the wrenching pain will be gone. You will once again anticipate some good times to come, and yes, even find joy again in the experience of living

I can see a light at the end of the tunnel and that light is me.

I spend a considerable time in nature … with the nurturing energies that help change my life … over time it brought new levels of consciousness and with that a new perspective on the ordinary and the journey itself.

I have also  gone deeply into mindful meditation and movement therapy such as Thai Chi and Chi Gong (Qigong) … it was the initial reason why I give to others by teaching mindful meditation and movement therapies like Qigong and Tai Chi. online and in person

During mindful meditation I arrived at the point where we exist day to day in a continuous meditative state – along with the controlling our thoughts … and being more in a feeling state than a thinking state .. life becomes creative and peaceful, love and understanding pervade your every waking moment.

Connecting the Dots

April 26, 2014 Leave a comment

I was thinking about Steve Jobs the other day and a quote of his came to my mind … it went like this

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backward”

He is so right, many months ago, it was as if I was in a dark room, feeling my way forward, but I kept falling over stuff, the future that I had invested in was always out of reach … my brother did what only brothers can, and asked me to look at the dark room again, but differently this time.

I went into a familiar process that I had first completed some 20 years ago, it requires only commitment and absolute honestly – it is essential that we face our demons, for until we do, we project them onto the world, through our reactive unconscious acts, hurting those we love, and who love us … since this time, the second process has been completed (such that it can be or ever is), the fiction that fears are real was revealed and you move past them ..  you are at a new plateau, just, so long as we stay aware and keep owning your weaknesses.

When one is within the darkness, we can only feel the pain, for that part of us has no way of communication through language … it takes time, it take commitment, courage and time  .. I honour all those who go through any recovery process.

It is wonderful to feel your family’s love, but what they cannot do is facilitate or enable you – they will withdraw from you –  to support you how they feel they can … it is as if they take you down to the dock for a long sea voyage … you can still feel their love .. but this is a journey we must take alone.

In hindsight, part of connecting the dots, you learn lots of things about yourself – you understand, accept and value yourself,  you make friends with who you really are, and also with your ego, to understand it better .. you learn that there is almost no pain when we are present, for then the ego has no place to hide – you take what you have learnt and over a period of months you let go of the past and bring only the learning into your life – Staying present develops further into acceptance of what is and the letting go of expectations and any sense of a need for control, then one day and every day after, you are just grateful – you feel balanced and stronger, but most of all you are free. Frankly being truly free is a bit scary, but you try new things, people engage and you are on your way.

If one must label things, most of the time you are mindful – you bring a huge focus to anything that is in your present, because you are present … you are careful of where you walk so you don’t tread on insects, you spend hours down by the beach, or in the woods, noticing every aspect of the web of life, the trees, the grass, the birds, of life abundance – new insights come, you experience your consciousness expanding like a wave, flowing outwards into the world … it is intoxicating and yet so much more .. but it is I feel only a beginning.

In this moment, I find life is a wonder – you don’t judge, you love and understand the behaviour of others, and even if you don’t understand, you feel real compassion for what they are going through (for I feel everyone is doing the best they know how to), insights come, and it feels good to engage and help others .. but the real outcome is that you know who you are, you need no one’s approval for you have your own, you engage more with the community and surprisingly you are detached even from your own future …. you flow with what life brings as it comes into your present and you look to the future – you can still feel those you love, but it is as if you are traveling parallel paths, you wonder !…. but you know whatever happens, what a journey there must be yet to come, for all of us, together or apart  ….. whatever comes, you are up for it

Where I am right now, I doubt I will be directly addressing this introspective aspect of me again, well anytime soon that is … for I guess the time for a definitive on any subject is well and truly gone.

I have a new list of subjects for blog posts coming up including an update on the State of our Paradigm I did last year .. interesting times … thanks for reading and if any are within such an experience as this, know it will be different for you, but flow with it, honestly and with courage, you too will come through.  If you need a sounding board, contact me, I will help if I can.

The future is for us, to create together

Recently I commented on a blog … it was truly a refreshing wind blowing through the normally .. Sclerotic thought processes of the status quo … I liked the post, I think we can learn from it … I would like as many as possible to read it …

A comment I made on the post … I feel acts as a good introduction

I read many blogs each day, the majority offer criticism of what is .. with no developed alternative to suggest … here we see a way that normal people can break the current business as usual model … and create a real way forward at grass roots level, the writer of this blog post sees the problem clearly, for surely the essence of the failure of the current system is, Yes, competition is a good thing … but this focus of “killing” the competition leads to less competition, not more … and the Capitalist system only works when there is a lot of competition.

Instead, now we have ended up where power and control is increasingly being consolidated in few hands… and as history clearly shows consolidated power crushes liberty … there is no way for them to co-exist, and so democracy and freedoms are becoming a memory.

These same organizations where power is being consolidated have been driving us to “buy to consume” … Why ? … because they need us to, so they continue to exist … there is great wisdom and freedom in being free of debt … for when you are in debt, you are not only paying the debt with money, but also with your freedom.

Other aspects of this strategy, is that it supports like minded people and organisations. Also in the wider market, it gives Value driven support for small business, which allows them to grow and hence increase competition, and with the support of like minded organisations that are not driven just on price but on equity, relevancy and impact … it will succeed, this enhances choice.

At a community level, the exchange of produce to help each other is a great point to start with and perhaps over time, this may grow into community driven projects such as growing food, or (?), the great upside is that it gives purpose, and brings everyone together to help themselves and each other … this develops everyone involved, promotes community cohesion and purpose and lessens the likely hood that people will fall through the cracks.

This post makes sense as it is something that everyone can do today … to challenge and change the what is, to what it can be, for at the end of the day, if we all don’t do this who else will ?

The post is here it offers a critical point … but the need by business to kill the competition is flawed … for if business really understood the term collaboration and cooperation, there would be no reason for this kill or be killed belief, the trouble with killing the competition, is that it destroys not only the competition, but also competition itself and the capitalist model … think about it … for then if the model continues we end up with an effective monopoly, and if it continues to its ultimate conclusion, where business takes control of Government itself, fascism!!

Here my friends the future really is in our hands … we must create our own way … governments have shown themselves incompetent and incapable … so lets do it ourselves … ???

Any thoughts or comments are welcome …. or perhaps some thoughts at other topics to look at further ….

Moving Forward ..

For some considerable time we have witnessed the destruction of our culture, to the point now that almost anything that does not involve consumption or the worship of money seems to be very much in second place … almost as a curiosity of “what is that” ?? … one only needs to look at the very young that know that milk comes from packets and are somewhat perplexed where meat comes from … the connection with where we came from in breaking .. breaking ….

Politicians talk, but do nothing … for their only priority is themselves, and being re-elected, after all we all know for most they can do little, after all they have one master already, so there is no place in their lives to represent the people they are supposed to work for.

How do we move forward as a culture … without involving the so called leadership … I saw a very good post today on a blog … here .. is the link …

I would suggest you go and read it … I put some comments there that some may find interesting … but basically if we want to change the future … we have to do it ourselves …. we have the power … we just start at home at the grass roots level, in the neighbourhoods, the local communities …

Perhaps Time will be the equaliser ?

August 22, 2012 Leave a comment

Time is like a blind drawn on the past, shrouding what was … I sometimes wonder how many times Gaia has been through this same scenario … where civilizations have reached their use by date as ours has … with the passage of time, nothing left to remind us of what was …. perhaps Atlantis was one …. will what we have now, also become the stuff of fable and legends … perhaps … Gaia has been patient with this experiment called humanity … but now we have the capacity to do her irrevocable harm .. her patience is at an end … For even Manhattan was farmland once, and it will be again …I once worked out how long it would take for concrete and steel to be blowing in the wind … with little left to reveal what was … perhaps as little as 200-300 years, certainly less than a 1000 … for Gaia, but a blink in the eye …

Perhaps in the future .. the archaeologists of the time will look at the rubble and wonder what was this place ? … what were these giant penile structures to the sky, perhaps a religious center? In a way they will be right … for it is worshipping money … an idol of our own creation ….. to which everything that is spiritual and right had been sacrificed.
